Transit Planner

The Agency for Community Transit (ACT) is looking for a full-time, salaried, Transit Planner to compile, analyze, and maintain transit system performance measures and statistics for monthly and annual transit performance reports. This position also maintains the inventory of transit bus stops and passenger amenities and conducts field assessments of bus routes, stops, and amenities. The position reviews route alignments, ridership, makes recommendations for bus route and schedule adjustments, and reviews transit service requests and transit propensity that may require new or adjusted service. The position also involves oversight of vendor partners and management of projects that help maintain and improve the functionality of transit amenities, the CAD/AVL system, and other elements of ACT Service.

Essential Functions include but are not limited to
  • Assists with developing plans for fixed-route transit service, including evaluating system performance, and making recommendations for change as need to ensure service meets ACT’s goals and objectives.
  • Prepares reports on ridership, route performance, on-time performance, and other operational metrics.
  • Assists with coordination of public outreach events, including set up, speaking with members of the public, working with internal staff to disseminate information to the public.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Planning, Transportation Planning, Statistics, or related field; AND a minimum of 1 year of professional experience. A combination of related education and professional experience conducting transit/transportation planning or scheduling may substitute for education depending on the type of experience.
  • Knowledge of transit and transit system operating principles and practices.
  • Strong mathematics, data collection, spreadsheet, and spatial analysis skills.
  • Excellent writing skills to allow for preparation of correspondence and reports with minimal guidance.
  • Experience working with the public and public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, database applications and ability to learn other software applications as needed.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all areas of position.
  • Clean and neat appearance.
